Why the South Korean Lawmakers impeached President Park Geun-hye (Read here)

This is the latest of what is going on in South Korea right now.

The South Korea's National Assembly (Lawmakers) have passed a vote of no confidence on President Park Geun-hye and elected to impeach her from office. Out of the 296 voters in the Assembly, 234 votes supported the impeachment of President Park Geun-hye , 56 voters supported her to remain in office while the remaining six voters were absent, does not really change much considering the gap between both figures. The motion for the impeachment of the South Korean President was successful because the South Korean constitution requires a two-thirds majority of the 300-member legislature for the impeachment of any president.

Thousands of South Koreans Come out to protest against president Park Geun-hye and celebrates her impeachment

The South Korean constitutional court will now deliberate on the motion, and this process would take up to 180 days.
Right now, it is uncertain if President Park will resign after seeing the results of the poll or will wait for the court to rule on the matter.
President Park had a meeting with her cabinet members at the Presidential Blue House this afternoon, her final act as President before stepping aside for the deliberation.
The South Korean Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn is now acting President of South Korea until the time when the court will declare the outcome of their deliberations.

Apparently, thousands of South Koreans are very happy about this development and have gone into the streets to celebrate the news.

In a phone call with defense minister Han Min-koo, Hwang said that under the current situation there is a possibility that North Korea could use the political upheaval to stir up trouble south of the 38th parallel, and that the South Korean military should maintain its readiness posture.

Why South Korean Lawmakers voted for the Impeachment of President Park Geun-hye

Former President Park was alleged to have revealed confidential government documents to her confidante and adviser, Choi Soon-Sil.
This is very bad because those documents are only allowed to be accessed by top Government officials, which Choi soon-sil isnt. He doesnt even have a position in the government.
This led to President Park's approval ratings and massive protests since it emerged that her confidante and adviser, Choi Soon-sil, had access to confidential government documents despite holding no official government position.
Choi Soon-Sil allegedly used the relationship she has with former president part to accumulate millions of dollars in donations into her foundations.
Choi Soon-Sil has since been detained and charged with abuse of power, fraud and coercion.
Two of Park's former aides were also arrested by the Korean Authorities and charged with criminal charges.

What Will happen next in South Korea After the impeachment of President Park Geun-hye?

First of all, the South Koreans demand that President Park resign

Then the parliament has voted to impeach, Power will now be handed over to Prime Minister Hwang.
A meeting is held between Minister Hwang and the cabinet members to ensure a smooth transition of power, should the vote go against Park. The 59-year-old former justice minister, Minister Hwang will now preside as acting president while impeachment deliberations by the country's constitutional court take place.
The court's nine members need to return a two-thirds majority to impeach. If successful, a new election would be held within 60 days. In the South Korean history, The impeachment of President Park is the second to have occured.
The first impeachment happened In 2004, when late President Roh Moo-hyun was also forced out of office for two months. The Constitutional Court later restored Roh to power, rejecting charges of abuse of power and mismanagement
